Conference of Youth (COY)!

Some of WAGGGS delegates with Bill McKibbon.  Bill is the founder of 350.org, author of Eaarth, and a strong supporter of youth in climate change educational activities.

Bill McKibbon was the keynote speaker at the Conference of Youth!   He encouraged youth to speak up and take action on climate change issues.
Thanking all of the youth who voluntarily helped organize COY and who helped volunteered as translators. COY was held in both English and Spanish, so all presentations were translated to enable Spanish-speaking youth to engage in the climate change discussions.

Get involved too!

You can get involved too! On 2 December our delegates will be asking WAGGGS members to join in with an action on climate change: the 'YoFuGe-Action'. The action will take approximately 15 minutes and will be part of the ‘Youth and future Generations day’.

Stay tuned...a video and details will be available on the website on November 28! Ensure that on December 2 you have a group together ready to follow the instructions and join in the worldwide campaign for climate justice!

Welcome to Cancún!

¡HOLA! Happy Thanksgiving!

I arrived in Cancún last night. Yesterday I spoke about climate change with my airplane seatmate from Pakistan. He told me that he is skeptical about the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), but expressed support for the youth at the UN climate change conference. He asked me many questions about what the Girl Scouts are doing at COP16, and it was great to hear his satisfaction with his son's preschool environmental curriculum.

While waiting for the bus to downtown, I met a couple from Brooklyn who were surprised to learn that a climate change conference was happening in Cancún. After taking the bus to the hostel, it was wonderful to meet Miriam and Katie, two WAGGGS colleagues!

Katie, Miriam, and I looked in some shops today on our walk to buy cell phone sim cards. It has been fun meeting new WAGGGS delegates this afternoon, and we are all busy getting ready for the Conference of Youth (COY) that begins tomorrow. We officially begin our WAGGGS training this evening! The 16th Conference of Parties (COP16) begins on Monday.
